AUBERGE SHALOM

LOGO REDESIGN
FALL 2019
Project Overview
Montreal women's shelter Auberge Shalom was in need of a logo refresh, and Jonar offered its design services to help them complete the task. Their communications team had some ideas for imagery that they felt was important to their vision as an organization. During our first meeting, they provided me with their key values: safety, empowerment, advocacy, resilience, comfort/warmth, connection and hope. I referenced these ideas throughout every step of the design process as I worked to modernize their aesthetic.

The options
The existing logo was created in the 1980s and featured a silhouetted image of a mother holding a child's hand. The Auberge Shalom team felt that this image represented their mission well, and initially wanted to retain it. I created three options for them to review, one of which contained this theme. For the remaining two, I chose to go in different directions to ensure that the team had considered all possible options.

Final delivery
The Auberge Shalom team spent some time considering these options and discussing which iconography best represented their mission. While they initially wanted to retain the mother and child image, they ultimately chose the third option, "shelter and warmth." They felt that this image was more inclusive to all potential clients, both those who have children and those who don't, as well as non-binary and transgender clients. Our hope is that the warm, inviting image of a home feels welcoming and safe to all. Finally, I went on to create the secondary versions of the selected logo.
